Brooklands Cove Nursery - Potters Bar

Our nursery is based on Mutton Lane in Potters Bar, within the 5th Potters Bar Scout Headquarters. We are a pack away setting which means that we are able to offer a fresh and exciting set up everyday. We have two garden areas, one with a large green area for lots of physical activity and another with sand and water play, a mud kitchen, role play and climbing equipment. Our setting is surrounded by a large field and woodland area with access to two local playgrounds and shops for educational outings.

We practice ‘family grouping’ in our setting, this means that we aim to have children of all ages spending as much time together as possible. We embed this research based approach as we have seen the benefits of mixed age groups throughout our time as childminders. Younger children are role modelled by older children while the older group gain a greater understanding of boundaries, risk and consideration for others. We also incorporate small group sessions to follow children’s interests, ensure younger babies have safe spaces to explore their physical skills and introduce riskier resources to older children. We keep our setting on the smaller side to ensure that family grouping sessions remain calm and safe, aiming the bridge the gap between a childminder and busier nursery settings.
